22 April 2013

Immingham based UnitBirwelco division, Unit Engineers & Constructors (UEC), is currently undertaking a series of projects in Stallingborough and Immingham, including the fabrication and construction of an acetylene plant for BOC.

The team has taken on the role of Principle Contractor for BOC to fabricate and construct an acetylene plant in Stallingborough. Although this is not the first time that Birwelco has taken on this responsibility, it is the first time they have been commissioned to do so for a project of this scale for BOC.

As part of the role UEC is managing the permitry, CDM (Construction Design and Management) responsibility and site inductions, as well as carrying out the fabrication and construction tasks. UEC will be involved in the project throughout the installation, compliance, testing and handover.

Lindsey Oil Refinery (LOR) part of Total has also commissioned UEC to undertake the fabrication for the LOR 2013 planned shutdown in September at its plant in Immingham. Planning works for the shutdown are currently underway. The UEC team has been working with LOR to support its annual shutdown in Immingham for the past couple of years.

In May, the UEC team start work on the Exchanger outage for Philipps 66 in Immingham, which is planned for February 2014. This follows the successful Alkylation unit shutdown on Phillips66 which the UEC team implemented.

Dave McIntyre, General Manager for Unit Engineers & Constructors, said: “We are proud to be involved in these exciting projects and in the case of many of them to be taking on enhanced responsibilities as well as new contracts. We feel this reflects the relationships we build with our customers and our commitment to excellence.”
