Power Services Proving Its Mettle

The Power Service Division, set up last year to provide an essential, 24 hour, 365 day-a-year service, is in great demand. The division offers a quick response and turnaround time, underpinned by an efficient working regime and exemplary safety standards.

In recent months, Power Services competed a planned mechanical outage a full 5 days ahead of schedule, at Scottish Power’s Damhead Creek gas-fired power station in Kent. The outage, with full NDT preparation, was completed in 21 days. As a result, Power Services was asked to complete a further project at the site, repairing two tube leaks within an economiser.

The division was also called out to a critical superheater failure, following a mechanical outage for FCC Environmental at its Allington Quarry waste-to-energy plant, near Maidstone.

The extremely challenging on-site repair called for mirror welding and the replacement of 150 tubes. This project was completed well ahead of the 2 week deadline.

Power Services General Manager Steve Foligno said: “In critical situations like these, our detailed understanding of high pressure systems and heat transfer products means we can assess work requirements and completion times very accurately. So our clients can be confident their contingency planning won’t come unstuck.”

At the heart of Power Services is the rapid response team, galvanised by a team leader who can be onsite within 2 to 4 hours to agree the most appropriate programme of action. This flexible team can offer various response scenarios, rapid mobilisation of labour, equipment and consumables support, and can provide full risk assessment, method statements, and QA documentation.
